I’ve got the music in me…

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, Self, familly & Friends

OK, My Nikon D90 is gone for the next 3-4 weeks. It hurts, at the same time I take it as a challenge.

If the camera does not make the photograph, well, I am up to the task. Today’s picture was taken with an old retired “point and shoot” camera, with a whooping 5 megapixels! Yahoo. In JPG format (snif, I am hooked on RAW format).

I am not that desperate, still have a good reserve of pictures, nevertheless I will continue adding up new images taken with the old cameras.

Of course, production will suffer, in the mean time I will play more music with my faithful Bass guitar, hey it is like that: “I’ve got the music in me”.

** Careful playing that song, it is very addictive…

Merci Kiki Dee Band!

Touché!

Posted by: fmeehan   in Kids, Photography, Sport

This picture was taken in Valleyfield, a few weeks ago, during the qualifications for “les jeux du Québec”.

As the organizer allowed me to get close to the action, I choose to use my faithful 50 mm lens. That way I had plenty of light and was able to use a decent shutter speed (1/500 of a second) to freeze the movement.

Nikon D90
Exposition : 1/500
Ouverture : f/2.4
ISO: 1000
Longueur focale : 50 mm (75 en DX)
Aperture, Topaz Denoise 3 et Detail, Nik ColorEfex pro

Bad news… My D90 is in a bad shape, the rough landing on the sidewalk was damaging. The base of the body is cracked. No DSLR for at least 3 weeks. And the invoice might be hard to swallow.

As I said before, photography is a dangerous sport, this time the wallet will be the victim.

From one nice baby, to another…

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends, people

After “cute” Jessiane, here’s my beautiful Val.

When we are in a photo session Val and I, we don’t talk much. The picture comes naturally.

So please excuse me if I don’t have much to say.

I Think the image talks by itself.

Merci Val!

Jessiane

Posted by: fmeehan   in Kids, Photography, people

Here is my latest model: the gorgeous Jessiane.

Saturday last I had the chance to do a photo session with 2 very young and wonderful kids. I challenged myself by using the LensBaby composer for the whole shooting.

To start with, the LensBaby is not easy to manipulate as your are in manual mode, photographing the small fellas requires a strategy of its own. You must crawl among them for a good period, until they don’t notice you anymore, until you become part of their world.

ISO: 800

No flash, a superb sunset light through the patio door.

A splendid model she is.

Thanks to the parents.

A Beethoven concert!

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, Self, familly & Friends, people

I don’t want to miss that!

Haha! I have improved the technique of shooting with the camera on my belly: I can now shoot while moving!

To achieve this feat, I put the shutter in timer mode with a 2 second delay then I press the button and move toward my target with my usual, amazing grace…

I must admit, it does require practice, indeed lots of it, nice to be in the digital age.

Now I must find a name for this technique, what about bellyshooting ? Hum…

Impromptu session

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends, people

A father-daughter discussion that goes like this:

“Hum, it’s been a long time since we did one, I think it is time!

Yep, what do we do?

Well, I thought using that small ladder I bought for shooting, the softbox and the 50 candles I bought at the Dollar store.

What about the feathers?

Nah! I don’t feel like using them, on the other hand, Ced has those fancy knives…”

And here we go…

Don’t touch our garbages! (pic)

Did this shot while walking in the streets of Valleyfield P.Q.

The little creatures looked worried, thinking I was about to steal their garbages…

Nose injury: darn fence!

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends, people

This picture was taken last week while going shooting with a group of Flickr friends: Nature-Elle, Sarah-Vie, Etonan, TreborF and ! titi !.

This superb portrait has a particularity: my daughter Val, did the shot (nice framing) and took the post-production decisions.

Needless to say, the awesome artistic value of this image is mostly due to the charismatic presence of the model (that would be me).

And yes, it’s real blood, I found a way to scratch my nose on the fence…

No one to be seen…

Posted by: fmeehan   in Landscape, Photography

Here is a picture of the old port of Montreal, taken on a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Shot from a location in Saint-Hélène island, it is very surprising that there no one can be seen on the picture, as if someone drop a neutron bomb on the city.

En garde! (pic)

A young fencer in action during the last “Jeux du Québec” at Valleyfield P.Q., last Saturday (January 16 2010) at the Sainte-Cécile center.

Wonderful moments camera on hand, among the young competitors practicing their noble sports

I took a couple of beautiful shots that day, that I will publish in the next few days.

An excellent photograph from Flickr, Sylvain Mercier, was on site as a volunteer. A million thanks to you Sylvain!
