Is it spring?

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

Is there any more snow ahead of us?

I’d like to think not :-)

Two more HDR pictures, freshly taken this afternoon, Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot…

Sky was just superb, once again…

HDR tests

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

Hi everyone, Sunday last, was so nice, had to go play outside…

I took advantage of the good lighting conditions to further experiment the HDR photo technique.

Here are 2 pictures, the first one is a roll of iron mesh to be use  in setting up a concrete structure for the Galipeau bridge.

And last, a well known location for John Abbott students, Pizza Bellevue…

I tried 2 softwares, Bracketeer and Photomatix pro. I finally end up using Photomatix for both these pictures.

Great fishing at Saint-Anne…

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

I took a great long walk up to Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue today…

This has been a slendid day: nice sunshine, warm weather.

These are probably the last days of ice fishing for the year.

I met a seasonned fisherman, he took several yellow perch while chatting with me.

He uses a genius trick, the fishing line at the tip of the rod is passing trough a thin spring. These help detecting even the smallest fish bites.

Here is the catch of another fisherman, with a beautiful pike.

Here is another picture of Rubis, my “Top Model”…

Taken with the old Canon Point and Shoot camera, tried to give it a light “comic strip” look.

A different kind of cheese cake

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

My Friend André, an accomplish cook, made a wonderful Cheese cake last week-end.

It is not cooked, very simple to do apparently, and his “finger licking” good I can witness.

Here is the recipe:

Beat 500g of cream cheese
Add 350 ml (¾ cup) of brown sugar

In a spring container line up around it some cookies

Melt 7 g of gelatine with
125 ml (1/2 cup) of Amaretto

Beat 250 ml (1 cup) of 35% cream until the bowl can be put upside dowm w/o cream falling

Mix Amaretto-gelatine mixture to cream cheese
Add cream and mix until there is no more lump in the mixture

Separate mixture in half (more or less)

Pour one part of the mixture in the spring container

Melt some chocolate with some cream
Mix melted chocolate to remaining mixture.

Pour that mixture in the spring container
Store in the fridge for one hour.

Here is the André’s creation:

Working on an image…

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

Hourray!

Canon Canada saved my old Point and shoot, the SD870 IS. No charge!

Today, while walking the dog, took the old device with me and left the D90 at home. Took a couple of shots under strong winds.

Last time I used it, almost 6 months ago…

As it was late in the day, light was rare and it is a lot to ask for a point and shoot.

Anyway, thought out it would be a good exercise to work with Jpeg instead of Raw file format, with 8 megapixels compare to 12.

Here is an exemple:

Lots of noise in the image.

So I processed the shot like this:

Ajustement of various setting in Aperture, remove the noise with Define, adjust ligthing with Viveza and ColorFx to add a touch of creativity…

A scary dog…

   Posted by: fmeehan   in regular

What would you do if a 90 pounds German Sheppard (that you never saw before) was going toward you like a rocket?

In doubt, I took pictures, nevertheless, it was a bit scary…

This was a young mâle, pretty confident about himself.

So confident, a poor mole paid the price for it.

Rubis scared the little animal a couple of minutes after we met that dog. The German Sheppard decided this was his lunch. We did not argue…
