Lily, the Pomeranian lulu

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

I am not a real fan of small dogs, too often I find they bark all the time, are too nervous to my liking, not my type of dog.

Lily, a Pomeranian lulu (loudly repeat that 3 times, see that draws attention on you), has a little something…

Must say she is really young (3 or 4 months), is relatively quiet, and what a cute mug…

She belongs to my friend Linda.

Hard to shoot, so small and lively.

The tube and the cyclist

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

Some shots will give you more satisfaction then others and this is one of them.

Taken on the Galipeau bridge construction site, the center piece is a long metal tube that will probably be used as part of the new foundation of the bridge.

I was again doing tests with my new flash (Nikon SB-900), trying to illuminate the inside of the tube while keeping the overall picture balanced.

After one or two shots, I noticed a cyclist coming by. Pop an idea, let’s freeze a cycle wheel in the middle of the tube.

No time to put the camera in continuous mode. It will be one single shot, do or die.

The whole scene lasted less than 3 seconds, the brain get in gear, instinct and reflexes.

Click, I look at the result, wow, bulls-eye!

No time to rejoice, a security guard show up and tell me to leave the site, telling me that I am in a private area and that I could be taking pictures in preparation of a robbery.

Hum, I subtilely tell that person that I was not in need of a 20 feet metal tubes at the moment :-)

Happy St-Jean les Québécois!

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

And Happy St-Jean to everyone.

Pictures taken at Vaudreuil yesterday, during the show of Martin Deschamps.

Several kids on site, superb little faces for the camera!

Clowns add to the festivities.

Of course, we need some fireworks and they were gorgeous.

Martin Deschamps gave a good show as usual. Lots of energy.

On the technical side, all pictures (but firework) taken with the SB-900 flash on the D90.

Once again, Bonne St-Jean  !

Darn cats,

I thought the picture was nice, “Mister” cachou dare to disagree…

While passing through the village of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue this week, I noticed this displays of the Daoust store had changed.

Time to go back there and take more shots.

Once on site, I inquire to a salesperson about the identity of the person doing the arrangements on the displays. I am told, it’s the lady in charge of the men’s department.

There are customers, I will be brief, “Madam, thanks for your superb arrangements!”, “may I give you my card with the address of my blog?” I promptly return outside. I could swear she blushed a little.

And the Lady is good looking to.

What speed you say?

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

Coming back from a funeral, I could use a little touch of humor.

Thanks to our “ministère des Transports”, I got what I need.

What speed you say?

Picture taken at Hudson, 1/2 kilometer East from the Oka-Hudson ferry.

“Lion’s cut” for Cachou

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

As it became the standard for the last few years, summer is also the time for Cachou to “wear” the “Lion’s cut”

It is not really because of the heat, rather to control the cat fur getting tangle on the little fellah.

For the picture below, I used my SB-900 in remote mode, reflecting in an umbrella. Forced under exposure (-3 EV).

The last exam…

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

Almost there Val!

Tomorrow, she will write her last math exam before the college.

Maths and my daughter: this is not a love affair.

On my side, I am learning how to use the flash to produce more natural lighting.

First trials also with an umbrella as a reflector.

I really enjoy my SB-900 and slowly learning how to tame that beast.

Bonne chance Val!

A quiet Sunday morning on the lake

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

As the majority is still in bed, the early hours of the morning during the week-ends are prime time for shooting pictures.

Everything is so calm.

Lac des sables, Sainte-Agathe des Monts.

More and more I use Topaz Labs products Adjust et and Simplify.

They really speed up my workflow.

A shadow and a fish

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

Taken at 7 a.m., along the “Lac des sables” at Sainte-Agathe des Monts.

Needed to vent the abuse of the night before, fantastic food and wine and spirits.

Little fish seemed to like my shadow.
