First shots with the SB-900: Butterflies in love…

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

First shots with my new SB-900 flash from Nikon.

What I am interested in is to see the results in broad daylight. My second flash, an SB-600 from the same maker, is not at his best in these conditions.

I walk the dog in one of last “wild” field of Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot, to take advantage of decent weather (something rare these days),

There I see, a butterfly couple, working hard to get some descendants.

I think I will keep the flash…

Thousands of excuses dear butterflies, to have intrude your intimacy.

By the way, I have no clue what specie are these creature from, is there is an expert in the room?

Photo session with Val

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

In preparation for her graduation and has we never spend enough time together, Val and I decided to do a photo session on the dock of Place Datura at Ile-Perrot.

There are no better way for me to end the week-end then making photos of my little girl.

She is really at ease in front of the lens.

We definitely have to do this more often.

Small bird crashes into flowers

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Uncategorized

A very young bird, an American Robin crashed during a training mission onto Lise’s flowers.

No ones hurt, while trying to get closer to the beast, it took off like a spring toward us, it then went back to its family.

Galipeau Bridge under repairs

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

The re-haul of the bridge is going smoothly. Heavy cranes are used. This bridge is located at the extreme West part of the island of Montreal and links with Ile-Perrot. It is also known as the highway 20.

I have use the HDR technique, the sky was really special that night…

Stolen, burnt car in the trail

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Uncategorized

Sunday last, while taking the dog for a walk in the trail, we see a Provincial Police car at the beginning of it. While talking with the agent, he tells me a “probably” stolen and burnt car was reported in the trail. The don’t have the equipment to retreive it, it will have to stay there for a while.

The police car leaves, I am curious, got to see the wreck.

After a good half hour walk, we found it. The least we can say is that this thing got warm recently.

It is not too good for the landscape.

Fisherman of Ile-Perrot

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

At last, a day with a taste of summer.

Just enough to entice the local fisherman to practice their sports under beautiful light.

I have not seen any of them catching fish.

A dog and some water. part…

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

A quick note, all pictures on this site can be seen in a larger format, all you have to do is to double click on any of them.

When we have overcast condition (or rain like so many times lately) in the middle of the day, it brings a very different light, shadows are softer, color richer.

It is just less enjoyable to be outside, still very good conditions for photography.

When you have a dog like Rubis, that requires a lot of exercises, you don’t pick your day and must go out there regularly.

And it is a good time now to be in the woods, Mosquitoes season has not begun yet.

It’s very rare that I talk about wine, but can’t let that one going under the radar: The Pirate of Cocoa Hill 2007, Afrique du Sud.

Jaqueline, my neighbor working at the SAQ, strongly suggested me to give it a try.

Wow, such a nice wine, a delicacy and at $14.60, a price you can’t beat.

I bought 5 bottles today, I don’t think we should see it around for too long.

Be discreet, don’t tell the brothers in law.
