Clouds of July 2009, Ile-Perrot, Part Two

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

A plane flying the skies of beautiful Montreal, Québec.

HDR picture (Photomatix) with Adjust (Topaz Labs) processing, ISO 200 and Zoom 18-105 (at 80mm).

I would like to thank all of you for your support. The site traffic has increased in a very surprising and satisfying way.

And I will have to sacrifice, to open a good bottle of red for the occasion.

Santé.

Clouds of July 2009, Ile-Perrot

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

Wow, the weather here on Ile-Perrot for the last few days, has been kind of unusual, flash rain filling up pools: 4 centimeters in 20 min.

Clouds are incredible and present excellent occasions for taking pictures.

Today’s 3 were taken this afternoon and yesterday, the first 2 using HDR technique.

Really looks like there will be another good storm tonight.

B&W treatment with Silver Efex Pro

Last picture, taken yesterday with St-Anne-de-Bellevue upfront.

Zoom Zoom

   Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography

An old technique, where you “zoom in” your subject while the shutter is open. Typically using shutter speed of 3 to 6 seconds.

Several shots must be taken before producing one that is “presentable”, sometimes the results can be quite surprising.

These 2 pictures where taken with an 18-105mm lens on my Nikon D90, 3 seconds shutter speed, dock of Place Datura, Ile-Perrot.

Bokeh from Alien Skin software

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

Really interesting concept that Bokeh from Alien Skin. It is a plug-in for Photoshop and Elements.

It controls the “Bokeh” or depth of field and simulating the characteristics of well known lenses.

Did a quick test with Val on the soccer field.

Here is the original picture.

And then processed with Bokeh:

Problem is, the software hangs Photoshop Elements 2 out of 5 times.

Did place a support incident, we’ll see how it goes.

Valérie’s prom

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

Sorry for the delay, it did require a lot of work.

So here they are, pictures of my daughter Val and her best friend Jess, with their companion, Yan and Andrew respectively.

It was a heck of a photo session, no control on the schedule, did take the pics early in the afternoon, bright sunshine, worst light possible.

Hurried by time, only had 30 minutes to do the shooting. We start the operation at the “Perrotdamoise” a superb Bed and Breakfast, at the heart of Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot village, own by Madame Louise Lapointe, who graciously let us do our thing in the beautiful garden of this historic establishment.

On the technical side, I used 3 flashes managed by the Nikon CLS system, fitted with diffusor and reflector from Honl. The light gave me serious headaches, had to constantly fight the controls.

After we took the first series of pictures, we moved to the nearby Ste-Jeanne-de-Chantal church. It provided a superb view on St-Louis lake.

The girls were really comfortable in front of the camera.

And so were the guys.

Instead of traveling with a Limo, the old van, painted for the occasion by the girls, became their mean of transportation.

We then went to the Cité-des-Jeunes, for the ceremonies.

Val was given an award for her academic results.

Lise and I got a bit older that day… Were is my little girl? :-)

Piteu Pitou

Posted by: fmeehan   in Photography, familly & Friends

Piteu = Pitiful in french.

On a hot and humid day, all Rubis can do is to lay down and look pitiful.
